If you’ve seen The Hangover Part 2 you’ll recognise Lebua, the hotel atop the landmark 68-floor State Tower building in Bangkok.
On the final few floors you’ll find The Dome, a handful of swanky bars and restaurants with unparalleled views of the city. Whether you want to kick back with a scotch and cigar on a comfy sofa, or toast the setting sun with a sundowner 800 feet up in the open air, The Dome has your back.
Unfortunately it also has the back of every slack-jawed package-tripper and showy nob-head in Bangkok who wants to have been there, or wants to be seen there.
What The Dome does really well is keep these bozos away from Ocean 52 a dozen floors down. Serving a couple of alfresco restaurants on the fifty-second floor, Ocean 52 offers you a choice of either sinking into an armchair indoors or propping up the bar outside while you work your way through the cocktail menu. Best of all you can watch the sun sink over the horizon and the city come alive while reading a book or indulging in a little people watching in a priceless, peaceful, wanker-free atmosphere.
